I continue to be amazed at the knowledge of foreign languages this group posesses. I am NOT a language buff, and even got out of taking my one foreign language course in High School....
But I did take Gregg Shorthand!
Shorthand is a foreign language all of its own. I used to take sermon notes in shorthand and drive my sister crazy because she couldn't read over my shoulder! The only problem is that if you don't transcribe it right away, it is easy to forget what was written. This is because some symbols could be used as a Letter or a Word. And of course, like the rest of you know...practice is what keep you fluent.
My point on this blog was the fact that I kind of feel sad that I didn't take a foreign language like Spanish or French. Last night another single-mom friend and I went out to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner last night. I walked all over the place looking for the restrooms. Finally, I asked for directions!!! (Yes, I can humble myself to ask for directions, even for the restroom!) The Host looked at me quizzically, then pointed to a bright purple wall with big yellow letters with "ban`os". Boy, I felt like one of the girls on "Beauty and the Geek"!!
I commend you, RoamingWind, on your progress and dedication! I can't imagine trading places with you. I think I will stick to shorthand....what I remember of it! LOL! Maybe I will learn a few phrases from your posts!

Mathematical "Proof"
Thesis: Scientists will never make as much money as business executives.
Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power.
Postulate 2: Time is Money.
Proof: As every engineer knows, Work/Time=Power. since Knowledge=Power and Time=Money, we have: Work/Money=Knowledge. Solving for Money, we get: Work/Knowledge=Money. Thus, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity regardless of the Work done.
Conclusion: The LESS you Know, the more MONEY you make!

Makin' Memories
It was rainy all day and the clock dragged by today. I missed my boys last night while they were away at their dad's house. I really couldn't wait to pick them up. I told someone at work that all I wanted to do was get my kids, grab the pillows and blankets, and curl up on the couch together and watch a movie.
Well, being so rainy and dreary outside the boys were all in favor of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Needless to say, that's an easy meal after all day at work! :-) I had also promised them we would make S'mores Indoors this week, since I bought the ingredients over the weekend.
So we did.
We had our dinner then gathered around the unique invention of "s'mores indoors" over a light bulb...lol! My youngest turned out all the lights so the yellow glow would make it seem like we were camping, he said. My oldest actually wanted me to plug it in the outlet on my balcony to make it like "real camping" outdoors. (Hmmm...maybe camping in Auntie T's backyard made more of an impression than I thought! Maybe they don't realize that "real camping" is going out in the wild of the woods...LOL!)
We curled up on the couch together. Of course, we had the falling off mom's lap because they are just getting too big anymore. We didn't quite get to a movie....because my boys LOVE watching Fear Factor. I don't really handle it too well, but since Stephen Baldwin was one of the celebrity players, we did. It is soooo funny to watch them laugh and say "oh, gross!"
It was fun to have a quiet night with my boys. I enjoy my break away from being mom, but I sure do miss them and can't wait for them to be back home! Ahh...the memories! ;-)
(BTW, T, I did see I missed your call and IM....sorry, it wasn't personal!)

AAUGH!
I like to consider myself computer savvy. In fact, I usually can trouble shoot my computer at work vs. the IT Help Desk. Shhh! Don't tell them I said that...they might get their feelings hurt. (I know, I know...most of the people that might read this are much more computer-literate than I am.) It's funny that I worked on getting my updates installed today very diligently, but I eventually was frustrated. AAUGH!
In the back of my mind, I could hear this one lady sales rep at my office complaining. "Oh, Technology, technology....it does nothing but cause me problems...I did just fine with my computer before technology." Umm...Mary, you wouldn't have a computer WITHOUT technology. Oh BTW, did I mention this woman gets a "virus" everyday and calls me to see if I got her emails, etc. AAUGH!
Oh well, the good news is that I finally installed the Suites package (that I bought on my mother's insistance) and guess what....it actually worked and helped me get my computer cleaned up so I could install the McAfee updates. AAUGH!
Okay, enough of that! LOL! I am looking to a better week! Maybe I will actually have worthwhile post material to share. But I think I will the car issue posts to T! (you know I luv ya) =D

Detergent Container
Forewarning...This will be a post from my soap box!
I have been reading a book called "The Emotionally Healthy Church" by Peter Scazzero, in preparation for our Leadership Seminar at my church. Anyone in a leadership position, even in Kidz Ministry will be attending, and since the author is our speaker, he has requested we read this beforehand. That could seem a little cocky, I know..."please read my book before you come listen to me speak"...but as I am getting into the book, I can see why he has asked us to do so.
Second, since I commented a "mini-post" on Dust's blog...I thought I better bring my thoughts to a safer spot so as not to ignite a "heated discussion" over there...LOL!
Third, one of our pastors preached on "Being too busy to listen/hear God"...and use the example of Martha in the Bible. (I will come back to this)
I remember the day that "emotionally" or "healthy", let alone "emotionally healthy" would have been phrases ONLY heard in the "psychologist's office". And if one was a "real Christian" they would never be seen by a psychologist. Church people had God to help them through "trials and tribulations" that supposedly were only brought on by our lack of "hearing" God. We made a mistake in obedience and now we just had to "suffer" through it as Christ suffered on the cross. Sound familiar? If it doesn't...I am very glad. If it does...you may have lived under the shadow of the "Blue Vatican"like me! =D
Anyway, the pastor's point in bringing up Martha was enlightening to me...despite it being my mother's name!
1. Martha was too busy "trying to do all the right things".
2. Martha was trying to "be the perfect hostess".
3. Martha was trying to "make Mary be the right person".
4. Martha was "worried about what Christ would think being in her home".
5. Martha continued her activities of "busyness" even after Christ told her differently in rebuke of her scolding Mary.
My observation is this: How is it we are supposed to follow other's examples when we clearly see a different example from Christ?
1. Martha was doing "works" instead of following.
2. Martha was trying to be something on her own without Him.
3. Martha was crossing boundaries with Mary (and judging Mary's actions)
4. Martha was "fretting".
5. Martha was "not listening" to Christ's admonition.
Christ wishes for us to be healthy in all things; physical, mental, spiritual. The author's quest for emotional health is tied to the spiritual realm. Our heart and soul is where we experience emotion. To keep everything in balance and continue our spiritual growth, it requires taking care of ourselves in all aspects of life, even our emotional health.
