I went to Nashville to visit my brother over the 4th of July weekend! Had a GREAT time...hadn't seen him in 6 years. As much as I love St. Louis, there was a feeling of going "back home" to the South. I love my Sweet Tea!!
Of course, I had to listen to country music again! ;) But I heard this new song (new to me, anyway) and I wanted to post the lyrics. Yes, as all of my favorite songs, there is also a spiritual parallel! (and what an odd combination of artists?)
Artist/Band: Nettles Jennifer
Lyrics for Song: Who Says You Can't Go Home
Lyrics for Album: Bon Jovi with Jennifer Nettles
I spent twenty years tryin' to get outta this place.
I was lookin' for somethin' I couldn't replace.
I was runnin' away from the only thing I've ever known.
Like a blind dog without a bone,
I was a gypsy lost in the twilight zone.
I hi-jacked a rainbow and crashed into a pot of gold.
I been there, done that,
I ain't looking back on the seeds I've sown.
Savin' dimes spendin' too much time on the telephone.
Who says you can't go home?
Who says you can't go home?
There's only one place they call me one of their own.
Just a hometown boy born a rollin' stone.
Who says you can't go home?
Who says you can't go back?
I been all around the world and as a matter of fact,
There's only one place left I wanna go.
Who says you can't go home?
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright,
It's alright, it's alright.
I went as far as I could, tried to find a new face.
There isn't one of these lines that I would erase.
Lived a million miles of memories on that road.
With every step I take I know that I'm not alone:
You take the home from the boy,
But not the boy from his home.
These are my streets, the only life I've ever known:
Who says you can't go home?
Who says you can't go home?
There's only one place they call me one of their own.
Just a hometown boy born a rollin' stone.
Who says you can't go home?
Who says you can't go back?
Been all around the world and as a matter of fact,
There's only one place left I wanna go.
Who says you can't go home?
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright,
It's alright, it's alright.
It doesn't matter where you are;
It doesn't matter where you go;
If it's a million miles away,
Or just a mile up the road:
Take it in, take it with you when you go.
Who says you can't go home?
Who says you can't go back?
Been all around the world and as a matter of fact,
There's only one place left I wanna go.
Who says you can't go home?
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright,
It's alright, it's alright.
Who says you can't go home?
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright,
It's alright, it's alright.
Who says you can't go home?
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright,
It's alright, it's alright.

Good Lyrics. I'm interested in the tune now! I think I know the spiritual connection for you, but I'm interested in hearing more from you.
If you click on my MySpace link, you should be able to hear the song. I have put my page back to private, so you can't view all the other pics....but you should still be able to hear the song. Let me know if you can't.
Glad to hear you had a good time with your brother.
Golden's roots are slightly southern too (that's my opinion of SW Missouri). I don't know that I have lived anywhere long enough to have roots. :)
The song reminds me of the movie "Sweet Home Alabama" with Reece Witherspoon.
I love the southern way of things!
I agree with Dust that Sp'field is southern. I'm not into country music but I don't mind reading the lyrics, ha. Visits and travel are always fun though. 6 years ! What a long time at this stage of life to not see a sibling. Good thing you went.
